Bishop Auckland Table Tennis Club (Bishop Auckland TTC)

Welcome to the Bishop Auckland TTC website. I'm pleased to welcome you to the site, and hopefully to the club sessions at some point in the near future.

Bishop Auckland Table Tennis Club (BATTC) is a 4star Ability Table Tennis England club with club mark status which has community at the heart of its ethos. Within a period of only four years since its creation in July 2012, BATTC has quickly established itself as the best Table Tennis club in Durham and one of the best in the North East, this success can be attributed to relations built between ourselves and the local community.

As a community organisation, we are committed to being a Table Tennis club that supports the local area: priding ourselves on offering a welcoming and friendly environment, making table tennis available to all ages and abilities through both playing and volunteering delivering over 30 hours a week of community table tennis and through the club’s timetable over 350 people access Table Tennis on a weekly basis, from ages 7 to 80, from beginners though to over 30 Nationally ranked players, with each participant encouraged to achieve their personal goals.  To see our timetable click here.

The club is proud of its volunteering programme which has seen over 18 local volunteers become UKCC coaches, 10 become Table Tennis England county umpires and over 10 young members have become Youth Sport Trust Young Officials. All of which has been paid for by the club.

We work closely with other community organizations such as; Schools and Colleges, Health organizations, School Sport Partnerships, County Sports Partnership, Town council, sports development teams  and local Charity’s, all to encourage people to get active through sport – and in particular – table tennis by linking into local schools, colleges and other community organisations as well having open and specialized sessions specifically catering for those underrepresented in sport generally:  Women-only sessions, Over 50 groups and Disability sessions and more recently Games for the Brain for people with mental health problems. We are also proud to support the most vulnerable within the area by adopting Alzheimer’s UK our annual charity whilst conducting and participating in various charity fundraising events throughout the year.

The club uses table tennis as way of tackling the challenges that are currently facing those within the Bishop Auckland community boundaries, whilst we have satellite and primary school sessions throughout South Durham, we are predominantly based at the hub, Bishop Auckland Table Tennis Centre within Bishop Barrington School, running sessions every weeknight as well as community and social events. The table tennis centre is the only table tennis-specific centre in County Durham, and one of only two in the North East

In 2013 the club was awarded Durham Dales Junior Sports Club of the Year before going on to win County Durham Junior Club of the Year, the following year we were runners up at the Northern Echo Local Heroes Awards before in 2016 wining the treble of Junior Sports Club of the Year - Mid and Durham Dales, County Durham Junior Club of the Year and Table Tennis England National Club of the Year 2016.

Across the 4 years the club has won the National Junior League in 2016 and 2017, National Cadet League 2014 and 2016 and Junior British League Girls Div. 3 2017. On top of hundreds of National singles events as well as County school titles

We have raised over £10,000 for charity’s along with doing shoe box appeals, toy appeals and Easter egg appeals.

The club's mission is to be the most professional table tennis club in the country, by promoting and encouraging the playing and enjoyment of table tennis for all ages, abilities, and backgrounds, through high quality, accessible participation, and development opportunities that positively impact lives and enrich the community.

We are proud to have an ongoing relationship with our sponsors, the German manufacturer Tibhar, and their UK agents Bribar. We are currently the only club in the UK sponsored by Tibhar, which has provided each club member with a striking Tibhar shirt printed in the Bishop Auckland colours: green and black. If you would be interested in any sponsorship opportunities with the club, please feel free to contact us.

The club is seeking to attract anyone with an interest in table tennis to get involved, whether it's for a casual game on an evening, taking part in more competitive matches, or simply to help out in making our thriving club bigger and better. If you'd be interested in getting involved at all, please don't hesitate to get in touch!
