County Durham Sports Awards

Having previously won The Durham Dales sports award for Junior Club of the year and Coach of the year Bishop Auckland Table Tennis Club have, what is believed to be the unique achievement, of doing the double at County Durham Sport and Physical Activity Awards, arranged by Durham County Council and County Durham Sport held on the 11 October at Ramside Hall Hotel, Durham.

It is believed that no one from the same organization has ever won 2 awards on the night. This is a remarkable result for a club that has been running for just over 12 months and initially started with six members culled from a school table tennis taster session!

Head Coach Matt Porter said: “The Durham County Council Sport and Physical Achievement Awards is a prestigious event that celebrates sporting excellence across the region. To get coach of the year is great but to get Junior Club of the Year really tops of a great year.  All of the club volunteers and players have worked so hard to be where we are now. I’m looking forward to adding the award to the trophy cabinet for all to see”

“We hope that these awards will further raise awareness and profile of the club and its work in the local area and help the club continue to expand and develop.  In particular, as well as entering more of our juniors into National competitions we are looking to increase the number of teams in our local league, draw in members from the wider community projects and continued it’s support of local charities”

The club is looking forward to more success in the future.
