Good Going at Garstang

Good Going at Garstang

Anya Milne, Jake Haygarth and Luke Mitchell all took part in the Garstang 2 star at the start of February.  The morning saw the cadet event, Anya started the day in great form to win her group unbeaten including beating England number 10 cadet and 4th seeded Beth Ellis in the group before beating Incra Ahmed from Derby in the Quarter finals, However cadet number 2 Megan Jones was in good form and was too strong in the semis.

Luke Mitchell, in a tough group finished where he was seeded in the group 3rd to enter the plate event after too tight 3-1 losses to higher ranked players, However he showed his true strength by putting the defeats behind him to win the cadet boys plate beating two Durham county players in the last 16 and quarters without dropping a set before coming back from 2-1 down in the semi final and beating a Scottish international in the final 3-1 to take the title.

Jake Haygarth was seeded 5th for the event but showed how under ranked he really is by reaching the cadet boys final again like last year.  He won his group in routine fashion to reach the last 16 where he faced 3rd seeded Joe Dennison ranked 2 places above Jake Nationally, who, had had a shock defeat in his group. Jake came through the match a 3-0 winner to reach the quarters, where he got another 3-0 win over a higher player Lennon Maughan from Hull. The semis was a tougher match with Jake coming through a tough 5 setter with Tom Chesterworth from Lincolnshire to reach the final where England number 5 Toby Ellis was in great form winning 3-0.

The afternoon saw the Junior event, Again Anya made it though her group losing to Megan Jones again before losing in the quarters to Sophie Richardson, Jake seeded 7th for the event won his group including a tough win over JBL team mate Adam Dennison before a 3-0 win over Charlie McGowen who had beaten Luke Mitchell in his group to set up a quarter final with Daniel Watkinson and in a very tight match Daniel came through 13-11 in the 5th. Luke like the morning found himself in the plate event but again showed his toughness and resolve to win the plate event fighting back from 2-1 down in both his quarter an semi finals before a 3-0 win in the final.
