club volunteer Pat Johnson has been shortlisted for the National Pride of Table Tennis award finals.
The annual Pride of Table Tennis Awards seeks to honour the volunteers, officials, coaches and personalities who are the heartbeat of table tennis across the country, Clubs are encouraged to nominate there own club volunteer of the year, from hundreds of nominations Table Tennis England shortlist just 3 nominations as finalist. The finalists are invited to attend an awards ceremony at the Mark Bates Ltd National Championships in Nottingham at the start of March.
Pat who was born in Shildon, was nominated by the club for her hours and hours of work each week which includes running a weekly, women and girl’s session, bat and chat session along with over 50’s sessions and helping with the Primary coaching sessions. Pat passion and enthusiasm got her selected as a table tennis England Female ambassador for table tennis England and has just passed her UKCC level 1 award showing you’re never too old to learn new skills. Pat is a huge advocate for health benefits of table tennis, not only physical health but the way it helps your mental health.
“I was shocked and honoured to be nominated in the first place, but to be a finalist I can’t believe it Im absolutely delighted to be given he opportunity to go and represent all the volunteer work that’s done in the sport and at the club and volunteering is massively rewarding after the stress of my life table tennis came back into my life and has really made a difference for the positive, the club have been so supportive and encouraging I just want to help spread the benefits of table tennis and the opportunities at the club” Pat Johnson
