Bishop win five matches out of eight on second day!

This Sunday saw the second installment of National Cadet League. Sunday saw our two teams play four matches against other teams, one more than the previous Sunday. The teams arrived looking wide awake and tournament ready and remained the same teams from weekend one. Charlie Aisbitt, Lucy Hetherington, and James Reeves making up team one, team two consisting of Haiden Harris, Lucas Hannan and Harry Siddall.

The A team played Ormesby B first, and faced some tough matches from the outset, with Reeves first game going to the wire, and coming away with the first win of the day (8-11, 9-11, 11-8, 11-8, 11-6). Hetherington also had a tough game to start and managed to claim her first win of the tournament in 5 ends (7-11, 11-7, 2-11, 11-6, 11-9), a huge congratulations for this win. Aisbitt was also on form in his second game of the day claiming a win in 3 ends (11-7, 11-7, 11-7). The A team claimed the first win of the day against Ormesby B, narrowly winning 5-4 in games.

The B team also came out of the gates flying on their first match against Darlington B, with Hannan, Harris, and Siddall all claiming three wins in their games. Coincidently, all three boys only dropped one end each in all their combined three games. A brilliant start to the morning by both teams, the result of the match ended 9-0 to Bishops B team.

The B team’s second match of the day was against Ormesby B. Harris started off strong again with a comfortable win in his first game (11-4, 11-5, 11-7), and Siddall had an extremely close first end to take his first win (18-16, 11-4, 11-8). Harris also had a close second game and came away with his second win (8-11, 11-9, 6-11, 11-4, 12-10). The close games continued with Siddall also claiming his second win of the match (8-11, 12-14, 11-9, 11-4, 11-9), a brilliant comeback. Hannan dominated his second game (11-3, 11-2, 11-3) and claimed his second win in his third game (11-9, 11-6, 9-11, 11-7). The result of the match ended in Bishops favour 7-2.

The A team’s second game of the day was against Darlington A, who were unfortunately a player down so automatically forfeited three games of the missing player. Aisbitt and Reeves comfortably took both their first games (11, 7- 11-7, 11-8 Aisbitt, 11-3 11-3, 11-5 Reeves). Hetherington performed well but was unlucky not to get a win in the match losing her first game (9-11, 8-11, 4-11), and her second game (7-11, 12-10, 4-11, 9-11). Reeves again won his second game quiet easily (11-5, 11-2, 11-6). Aisbitt narrowly missed out on his second win of the match losing (9-11, 10-12, 11-6, 11-5, 5-11). The result of the match was 6-3 in The A team’s favour, the team’s second match win out of two matches.

The A teams third match of the day was against a strong Ormesby A team. There were a couple of close games in this match, but ultimately the Bishop’s players attitudes were fantastic when faced with tough opponents, with Hetherington coming close to claiming and end (4-11, 5-11, 12-14). Reeves also missed out on a close game losing (9-11, 7-11, 11-9, 10-12). The only win of this match came from Aisbitt, who had a tough 5 end game winning (7-11, 11-9, 10-12, 11-8, 11-8). The result of the third game was 8-1 to Ormesby A. The A teams first loss of the day.

The B teams third match of the day was against Brandon. Siddall made a great comeback again being two ends down to win three-two (8-11, 1-12, 11-9, 11-9, 11-8). Hannan also claimed a win in three ends (11-2, 11-0, 11-3), and Harris had an intense four end game winning (17-15, 15-13, 8-11, 11-9). The result of the third match ended 6-3 to Brandon, with each of the three Bishop players claiming one win.

The B teams final match of the day was against Scarborough, and a strong team. Hannan claimed his win of the match (11-5, 11-7, 6-11, 12-10). Siddall also claimed a win (11-9, 11-1, 11-6). Harris added another win in his second game, winning (11-3, 12-10, 11-5). Hanna gained his second win of the match (11-6, 11-9, 11-4). The result of the match ended 5-4 in Scarborough’s favour; the B team very close to winning this one.

The A team’s final match of the day was against Darlington B. Hetherington played her first game early, as unfortunately she needed to leave early. The only game Hetherington played she won (6-11, 11-9, 12-10, 11-6). Reeves took all his three games without dropping any ends in each of his games. Aisbitt’s first game was incredibly close, and he came away with his first win (5-11, 11-6, 9-11, 11-8, 16-14). Aisbitt also won his other two games like Reeves. The result of the match was 7-2 to Bishop.

There were some fantastic games on Sunday, and as ever our players showed fantastic attitude, sportsmanship and passion whilst playing, they cannot be praised enough. It is lovely to see them as a group getting along so well and enjoying the competitive atmosphere. The results of weekend two are: The A team won three out of four matches, and the B team won two out of four matches. Our head coach Ryan Morton said, “I continue to be impressed by our Bishop players, on and off the table by how well they represent not only the club but themselves, I hope they are pleased with their performances today, I definitely am, and I look forward to the third weekend.”

Until next time, stay tuned!
