Our Cadets were in action this weekend for the first day of National Cadet League. There were two teams in attendance, Team A, which consisted of James Reeves, Charlie Aisbitt, and Lucy Hetherington. Team B, which consisted of Lucas Hannan, Haiden Harris, and Harry Siddall. The first match of the day was against each Bishop team, so no coaching was given to either team. Both teams played well, and Team A got off to a strong start with wins from both Reeves and Aisbitt. Aisbitt and Harris had a close game with Harris taking the game 3-1. Hetherington came close to claiming her first end of the day but narrowly missed out against Hannan. The final score of the first match was 6-3 to the B team, given the B team their first win of the day.
The B team’s next game was against Darlington A, and all Bishop’s players managed to get their first win, with Harris having a close battle but winning in 5 (4-11, 11-4, 6-11, 11-6, 11-9). Siddall also performed well and picked up one game, Hannan picked up 2 and Harris picked up all three wins, making the final score of the match 6-3 in Bishop’s favour (B teams second win of the day). Bishop A team had a tough second match against Brandon TTC and came up against some strong players. The only win of the match came from a thrilling five end game from Reeves who performed very well under intense pressure winning 11,3 12-10, 12-14, 19-21, 11-7. The final score finished 8-1 to Brandon TTC.
Bishop A’s last match of the day was against Scarborough, and Bishop B’s match was against Ormesby A. Hetherington came extremely close again to claiming her first end but unfortunately lost in 3 (6-11, 9-11, 17-19) and was unlucky not to get this end. Two wins for this match came from Reeves and Aisbitt, with Reeves being unfortunate not to get a second win, losing one game 8-11, 11-9, 8-11, 4-11. The final score of the match was 7-2 in Scarborough’s favour. Bishop B team had very tough games against Ormesby and unfortunately claimed no wins, losing the match 9-0.
The results of day one is, Bishop B team have two wins (one over Bishop A team and one over Darlington A), and Bishop A team unfortunately have no wins from day one after facing some strong opponents. A big thank you to all the parents who were able to show their support during the day, and for providing some encouragement to players throughout the day. BATTC would also like to thank Lee Tinkler for helping coach the players throughout the day and providing some much-needed insight. Although our players may not have got the results they wanted, they showed great sportsmanship and politeness throughout the day and made the club proud to call them Bishop Auckland TTC players. We look forward to the second day of the tournament on December 12th.
