Two Bishop Players compete for the North East

Two Bishop players managed to qualify for the Inter-regional finals in Wolverhampton this weekend, after playing the qualifying rounds the previous month at Ormesby Table Tennis Club. James Reeves and Lucy Hetherington qualified, they faced a tough weekend of a team event on the Saturday, and individual event on the Sunday. Reeves was playing in the Under 13’s team, as they were a player short, and this was a big step up for him. His attitude throughout was fantastic, and he came close to claiming a couple of wins throughout the day but was unfortunate not to. Hetherington also played well on the Saturday in the Under 13 team event but faced tough opponents.

The Sunday was the individual events, and Reeves came close to his first win, claiming two games, but unfortunately loosing in five, he was unable to get out of his morning group and did not progress. Hetherington had a fortunate group, as a player did not turn up, which meant both players in her group progressed regardless, but after a long wait until her next match, Hetherington was unable to progress and was knocked out in the next round.

Although both Reeves and Hetherington did not get the results they wanted, we would like to congratulate both of them on their achievement of qualifying for this tournament, and their enthusiasm and attitude throughout the event, they both gave a fantastic representation of the Northeast and of the club. We look forward to next years qualifiers.
